Answers
Does it hurt?
The tongue piercing is considered (by most who have had it done) to be the least painful piercing. It is a lot LESS painful than biting your tongue It is a little uncomfortable for a couple of days after, but you can still speak and eat normally.

How long does it take to heal?
It can take 3 – 4 weeks to fully heal. It is one of the fastest healing piercings. Swelling generally lasts for the first 10 – 14 days.

How do I take care of it?
For the full answer to this question, click on the aftercare button on the top of this page.
A quick overview is this:
Rinse twice a day with a diluted alcohol-free antimicrobial mouthwash (Tech 2000 or Biotene) and twice a day with saline (1/4 tsp non-iodized sea salt in 8 oz. warm water).

Can I talk while this is healing?
The trick to being able to speak normally with this piercing is to ignore it.
When you first get this, your instinct is going to be to try to hold onto it when you speak (like when you have hard candy in your mouth), this is what makes talking difficult. Just let it go (it’s not going anywhere) and you’ll find that you can speak just fine.

What do I have to avoid while healing?
You should avoid alcohol for at least the first two weeks. Because your tongue is already going to be swollen the inflammatory affects of alcohol can be dangerous.
Smoking is allowed, however the more you smoke the slower it will heal, so the more you can cut back the faster you’ll heal. and try to drink lots of water, especially after smoking.
It is also wise to avoid wet kissing and oral sex during the healing period. It is an open wound in your mouth.

How much does it cost?
The piercing is $30 plus the jewelry. A standard barbell starts at $26. So you’re looking at about $56 plus tax. If you would like to buy the mouthwash (Tech 2000) from us, we charge $5. We will give you sea salt for free. (if you’re not sure what the sea salt if for, look back a couple of questions)
You will want to size down the length of the barbell after your initial swelling goes down (about 2 weeks) and because our barbells actually come in three pieces you can buy just the middle shaft to downsize which is $12 and of course we’ll change it for you for free.

Is there a way to hide this piercing when I get it done?
You can start this piercing with a flesh colored top dome. It’s not going to make it invisible, but it does make it a little less noticeable. This adds three dollars to the price of the barbell (making it $29).

What can I do to avoid damaging my teeth?
You definitely want to size down the length of the barbell after the initial swelling. The size that you are pierced with at first is longer to accomodate for the swelling. However, this length can be dangerous to your teeth if worn long term. Not only is it easier to bite because of it’s length, it also can do damage while at rest due to pressure from the bottom ball on your gums.
And the easiest way to avoid teeth damage is to not play with it. Don’t bite it or click it against your teeth.
